TRAGIC DEATH OF FATAI KOLAWOLE; A NEGLIGENCE OF DUTY

The early hours of 9th june, 2015 was filled and occupied with pandemonium and chaos after  confirmation of the death of a student FATAI  KOLAWOLE MORENIKEJI ( MATRIC NO 113784), A 400 level student of department of chemical engineering, ladoke akintola university of technology, Ogbomoso.

According to an eye witness ( name withheld), the deceased was on the football pitch playing departmental H.O.D cup organised by the sport director of his department, he was  about to be substituted for another player about 10 minutes to the end of the match when he slumped, he was quickly rushed to the university health center by fellow team mates, still gasping for air when he got to the university health center but unfortunately he couldn't be attended to properly due to underequipment of the university health center. The oxygen needed to assist him in breathing was exhausted as if that was not enough the university ambulance was no where to be found and report has it that it was sent on a non-medical errand. He was later referred to bowen university teaching hospital and on the way he gave up the ghost and died.
My concerns and yearnings are these : Where is our medical fee going when there is under-equipment in our health center? Why do our medical personnels disrespect sanctity of human life and treat human lives like that of animals? Justice must be served on all medical personnel involved in this non chalant attitude.
The student union government president (Hon.solace ) was informed on the incidence and he deemed it fit to lead some sets of students to the vice chancellor to showcase their grievances and to protest the non-chalant attitudes of the health workers. The Vice chancellor prof. Sulaiman Gbadegesin agreed that all academic activities in the school should be paralyzed with immediate effect excluding the 100Level students sitting for their test, a meeting was later scheduled for 3:00 pm claiming that the autopsy and all other investigation would be in place.
As  if 3:00 pm is next year, some sets of students ganged up and start what they called a peaceful protest round the school vicinity but was later hijacked by some sets of political gimmicks to vanderlize  school properties especially the university health center. All workers of health center ran helter skelter as students threaten their lives.
